Tekmar Group is delighted to reflect on the fruitful and ongoing partnership with UTC South Durham, which began in 2022. Over the past two years, our collaboration has grown stronger, driven by a shared commitment to inspiring and nurturing the next generation of engineering talent.

Our relationship with UTC South Durham is founded on several key objectives:

  • Supporting a dedicated STEM school and college in our local community.
  • Inspiring young minds about the diverse career opportunities within the engineering industry.
  • Building a talent pool for potential apprenticeships, T-levels, and other intake routes.
  • Breaking down barriers to entry in STEM fields.

Chloe Ainsworth, Head of People at Tekmar Group, expressed her pride in the partnership: “Our ongoing relationship with UTC South Durham has been incredibly rewarding. We are dedicated to inspiring future engineers and providing them with real-world experiences that can shape their careers. By working closely with UTC, we help bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the exciting opportunities in the engineering sector.”

One of the standout elements of our partnership is our participation in UTC’s annual Industry Project. This year, we were thrilled to see the students on the Tekmar project win awards, showcasing their talent and dedication. Additionally, we host an annual intake of UTC students for work experience, providing them with invaluable insights into the engineering industry. Our site tours offer students a firsthand look at factory environments and the various career options available within offshore wind and cable protection.

Catherine Purvis Mawson, Deputy Principal of UTC South Durham, emphasised the importance of such partnerships: “Forming relationships with companies like Tekmar Group is crucial for our students. It provides them with exposure to real-world applications of their studies and opens pathways to exciting careers in STEM fields. We are grateful for Tekmar’s commitment to our students’ development and their continued support in making STEM accessible and appealing.”

Since 2022, Tekmar Group has been proudly listed on UTC South Durham’s ‘Companies We Partner With’ list. This partnership has been instrumental in achieving our goals of inspiring young talent, creating apprenticeship pathways, and breaking down barriers to STEM careers. Our involvement with UTC South Durham continues to be a source of pride and inspiration for everyone at Tekmar.

Together, Tekmar Group and UTC South Durham are building a future where young, talented individuals are inspired and equipped to pursue careers in engineering. Our partnership is a testament to the positive impact that collaboration between industry and education can achieve.
